Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII announced that the second tranche of minimum wage increase per Wage Order No. RBVIII-21 will be taking effect on 18 February 2020.
In a media interview, Regional Director Yahya A. Centi reminded all the employers that six months after the effectivity of Wage Order No. 21, the daily minimum wage in the region would again increase from P315 to P325.
“We are calling on all our private employers to comply with our new minimum wage effective next month. As early as now we are giving this reminder for them to do the necessary adjustments for the benefit of our workers”, Centi said.
Centi clarified that said wage increase will apply to all minimum wage earners in the private sector in Eastern Visayas regardless of their position, designation or status of employment. He likewise reiterated the new wage rates for workers in different sector or industry.
“As stipulated in the wage order, our establishments in the non-agriculture as well as those in the retail or service sector employing 11 workers and above shall pay P325 daily wage while employers in the cottage, agriculture and service sector employing 10 workers and below must pay P295”, said Centi.
It can be recalled that the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board VIII issued Wage Order No. RB VIII-21 last July 22, 2019 before it took effect in August 18, 2019.End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
