Tacloban City – DOLE RO8 successfully turned-over to twenty-five Taclobanons newly-fabricated pedicab units last February 19, 2016 at DOLE Compound, Trece Martires Street, Tacloban City.
The Livelihood project entitled Pedicab Transport proposed by LGU Tacloban City thru its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) under the BUB program was directly administered by the DOLE North Leyte Field Office with a total amount of Php 412,500.00 benefitting 25 recipients from Tacloban City.
“This pedicab transport project is really aimed at restoring the livelihood that these beneficiaries lost during the onslaught of typhoon Yolanda. We provided them the necessary workshops for them to be able to come up with their individual business plans”, said Ms. Emilia A. Cruz, PESO Manager of LGU Tacloban.
Excitement and gratitude dominated the faces of the beneficiaries as they wait for their respective names to be called during the formal turn-over. They were so happy that finally they will be able to drive their own pedicabs and earn for their families. Unlike before, they don’t need to remit daily a big portion of their income to the owners of the pedicab they drive.
“I know that this pedicab will bring change to the situation of my family. I used to feel so hopeless and disappointed with myself being a jobless head of the family. But now I feel so motivated to work as hard as I can knowing that DOLE and the LGU Tacloban have entrusted me this blessing. I commit that this will not be put to waste”, said Tyron Tomate, one of the beneficiaries, in Waray-waray dialect.
At the end of the turn-over program, beneficiaries posed for brief picture-taking with their brand new pedicabs and then started driving home with much delight manifested through their beautiful smiles.
